Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-07-04
These Terms govern your use of AI Study Mate (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
AI Study Mate is an AI-assisted study platform: note-taking, classroom capture, a knowledge base built from your own course materials, AI tutoring and problem-solving, flashcards/spaced repetition, and related study tools. Features and AI model availability may change over time, including during an active beta period, and are provided "as available."
2. Your account
- You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- You must be old enough, under the law of your country, to enter into this agreement, or have a parent/guardian's consent.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or are used for unlawful purposes.
3. Acceptable use
The Service is built for studying and exam preparation. You agree not to:
- Use the Service to cheat during a live, proctored, or otherwise academically-monitored assessment — it is a preparation tool, not a live-exam aid.
- Upload content you don't have the right to use (e.g. another person's copyrighted material without permission, or someone else's LMS credentials).
- Attempt to abuse, reverse-engineer, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' data.
- Use the code sandbox or any AI feature to generate malware, conduct attacks against systems you don't own or have permission to test, or other illegal activity.
4. Your content
You own the content you upload or create (notes, recordings, uploaded documents, generated flashcards, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that content back to you, and to send it to the AI providers necessary to generate the features you request (see our Privacy Policy). We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use your private content to train third-party foundation models.
If you connect a school LMS (Canvas, EdStem, etc.), you represent that you are authorized to access that data and to have it synced into the Service under your own account.
5. AI-generated content
Responses, explanations, flashcards, and other AI-generated material are produced by third-party AI models and may contain errors, outdated information, or plausible-sounding but incorrect statements ("hallucinations"). You are responsible for verifying anything important before relying on it — especially for graded work, exams, or anything with real academic or professional consequences.
6. Payment, credits, and BYOK
- Some features consume credits from a wallet you fund, or are billed via a subscription; others can run against your own third-party API key ("BYOK"), in which case that provider bills you directly per their own terms.
- Credit purchases and subscription charges are processed through Stripe. Except where required by law or explicitly stated at time of purchase, credits and subscription payments are non-refundable once consumed.
- Donations/support payments (if any) do not unlock any feature, credit, or membership — they are exactly what they say they are.
7. Third-party integrations
Features that connect to Canvas, EdStem, Google, Microsoft, GitHub, or similar third-party services are subject to those providers' own terms in addition to ours. You can disconnect any integration at any time from Settings; we will stop syncing new data from it, subject to the retention terms in our Privacy Policy for data already collected.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any academic outcome, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including, where applicable, consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction).
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access for violating these Terms, with notice where reasonably practicable, except for severe violations (security, abuse, illegal activity) where we may act immediately.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will make a reasonable effort to notify active users in-product or by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to AI Study Mate's place of operation, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your own jurisdiction requires otherwise.
